The Minnesota Association of Townships Insurance Trust (MATIT) is a joint-powers entity under Minnesota Law set up for the purpose of providing Minnesota townships with a self-insurance pool.
MATIT MILESTONE – 20thANNIVERSARY OF MATIT
We measure time in minutes, days, years and even seasons but it is the milestone events in life that we most often remember. This year, the Minnesota Association of Townships Insurance Trust (MATIT) pauses from the rigors of the daily routine to celebrate two decades of the Trust’s service to members. Since 2002, the MATIT has provided its members a cost-effective alternative to the traditional insurance market and has developed programs to help members reduce their exposure to loss.
Organized pursuant to Minnesota Statutes 471.59 and 471.981, MATIT is a joint risk sharing entity that is subject to the same rules and regulations that apply to the townships that created the Trust. The board of trustees reflect the membership, as township officials they understand the myriad of challenges faced by townships as they work to deliver services to their constituency which provides context for decisions needed in the leadership of MATIT.
Everywhere we look change is happening. Amid this change, an organization can choose to operate as it always has or embrace the change and look for ways to remain relevant and necessary. During the past year, MATIT has taken steps to improve upon how it conducts its business for the membership. In the next few months MATIT will premiere a new website. The website will be a focal point for members to submit claims information, update schedules, provide workers’ compensation audit information and provide other data essential to the operation the Trust. Members will find information regarding board meetings, resources, and educational information on the new site.
With 20 years of experience, a keen understanding of the purpose and history of the organization the board of trustees recently adopted MATIT’s first mission statement. The mission statement embraces all that MATIT is and wishes to be.
The mission of the Minnesota Association of Townships Insurance Trust is to provide townships in Minnesota with affordable coverage tailored to their unique needs, superior claims handling services and information, and resources that support the efforts of the township leaders in avoiding loss.
Working together, we can ensure that the changes we encounter are not obstacles but opportunities for our continued success.
Work still lies ahead however at this time let us pause and congratulate ourselves on the success of the Minnesota Association of Townships Insurance Trust. A milestone - attributed to the loyalty and commitment of townships. Happy anniversary and congratulations to members, trustees, and staff of MATIT on this important milestone.
