can organize from unorganized land (mostly in the Northern part of the state) while merging, annexation and incorporation into a city cause townships to dissolve. 1,802 is the most townships the state has ever had. The newest township is Long Lost Lake Township in Clearwater County - organized on 11/8/05. The last townships to dissolve were Columbus Township in Anoka County and New Scandia Township in Washington County. Both dissolved in 2006. As the association for townships, we provide education, training and technical services to township officers and represent townships before the state legislature and state agencies. MAT is the founder of Minnesota Center for Small Communities (MCSC). MAT also provides insurance to the townships through the MAT Insurance Agency. The Information Library has been formed to provide certain pertinent information to township officers, please click on the link to access the documents and materials available.
