This is a comprehensive LTAP workshop for engineers, supervisors, and technicians who regularly work with culverts.

In this workshop, you’ll learn about the purpose of well-designed, well-built, and well-maintained culverts. You’ll review the important role culverts play in the drainage system and why proper design, installation, and maintenance are essential for well-performing culverts. The workshop will provide a basic understanding of the principles of culvert theory, design, location, planning, scheduling, permitting, and typical installations. It also outlines culvert inventory, inspection, repair, and rehabilitation methods.

This workshop is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (registration begins at 8:00 a.m.) at the specified location on each of the dates listed below.

Who Should Attend

This is a comprehensive workshop for engineers, supervisors, and technicians who regularly work with culverts. It’s geared toward those who install and maintain them as well as those who perform simple designs.

Course Instructors

Eric Johnson is a 1993 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a BA in secondary English education. Eric has most recently worked as a construction inspector for Professional Engineering Services. Over the last 20 years, Eric has served as an inspector on many local municipal projects, including the Guthrie Theater, Target Field, Highway 212, the Central Corridor and SW Corridor Light Rail projects, the 35E MnPASS project, Highway 610, various METC sewer rehab projects, and Saint Paul Metro Waste Water Treatment Plant renovation. He carries multiple MnDOT inspection certifications as well as the national CIPP inspection certification through NASSCO.

Ted Johnson spent the first part of his career as a high school teacher, teaching art and industrial education. He has a degree in secondary education. Ted has taught classes for MnDOT as part of ADA training and in the MnDOT Technical Certification Program. He’s worked extensively for MnDOT for the last 15 years and is currently a grading inspector on the Highway 14 Expansion Design Build.

1.0 Roads Scholar Program Maintenance Certificate credit and 6.0 PDHs.
