Safe Streets for All: Webinars Update from MnDOT, June 6, 2022

Several new webinars have been announced for the Safe Streets for All discretionary Grant Program to help potential applicants learn about the SS4A grant program and what they need to know to prepare an application.  If you cannot attend, a recording will be posted after each session.

  1. TITLE: How to Apply for SS4A Grants: General Overview
  • This webinar will offer a general overview of the SS4A program, the grant application process, and the available grant types.
  • Monday, June 13, 1:00-3:00 p.m. (EDT)

  1. TITLE: How to Apply for SS4A: Action Plan Grants
  • This webinar will offer a general overview of the SS4A program and the grant application process and provide a particular focus on applying for Action Plan Grants.
  • Wednesday, June 15, 1:00-3:00 p.m. (EDT)
  • Register to attend the June 15 webinar.
  1. TITLE: How to Apply for SS4A: Implementation Grants
  • This webinar will offer a general overview of the SS4A program and the grant application process and provide a particular focus on applying for Implementation Grants.
  • Thursday, June 23, 1:00-3:00 p.m. (EDT)
  • Register to attend the June 23 webinar.

Safe Streets for All Discretionary Grant Program is available to:

  • Metropolitan planning organizations;
  • Counties, cities, towns, and transit agencies or other special districts that are subdivisions of a State;
  • Federally recognized Tribal governments; and
  • Multijurisdictional groups comprised of the above entities.

Eligible Activities include:

  • Develop or update a comprehensive safety action plan (Action Plan).
  • Conduct planning, design, and development activities in support of an Action Plan.
  • Carry out projects and strategies identified in an Action Plan.

Deadline for applications is September 15th, 2022

The US Department of Transportation has released a notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) for a new discretionary grant program.  Below are brief highlights of the program.

Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant Program: FY22 NOFO

Program Highlights:

  • Purpose: Support regional, local, and Tribal initiatives to prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries.
  • Funding: Up to $5-6 billion in funding will be available over FY22-26, including up to $1 billion in FY22.
  • Discretionary Grants: Grant funds will be awarded on a competitive basis.
  • Eligible Activities:
  • Develop or update a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan.
  • Conduct planning, design, and development activities in support of an Action Plan.
  • Carry out projects and strategies identified in an Action Plan.
  • Eligible Entities:
  • Metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs);
  • Counties, cities, towns, other special districts that are subdivisions of a State, and transit agencies;
  • Federally recognized Tribal governments; and
  • Multijurisdictional groups comprised of the above entities.

  • Recordings from three pre-solicitation webinars are available.
  • To provide technical assistance to stakeholders, DOT will host a series of webinars during the FY22 grant application period.
